Ladder Pre-Use Visual Inspection Checklist (Pad of 30)

SKU LI-KITP

Ladders are one of the most common pieces of equipment in factory and warehouse environments. Easily grabbed for use, they can be one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment if not maintained and looked after properly. The Ladder Inspection Book can be used to support your pre-use checks and detailed visual inspections.

The ladder inspection pad enables an organisation to work through a duplicate checklist and carry out an inspection of their ladders, ensuring that they are safe for use. The top copy of the checklist is displayed on the ladder to indicate its safety. The duplicate copy remains fast in the pad as evidence that the inspection has taken place in the event of an HSE investigation.

Our checklists are suitable for use with any standard ladder including Lyte, DeWalt and Drabest.

How to use

The ladder user simply works down the inspection checklist, checking the safety of each component in turn. Once the inspection is complete, assuming safety has been established, the green PASS inspection certificate can be placed inside a safety status indicator on the ladder ensuring that everyone can clearly see that the ladder is safe for use. Failing ladders can be similarly identified by a red FAIL certificate and reported for maintenance. The duplicate copy of the certificate remains inside the inspection pad and can be used as evidence of inspections should you ever need to produce this for the HSE or other official parties.

FAQs

What is a pre-use ladder inspection?

The pre-use ladder check or inspection should be carried out:

  • by the user;
  • at the beginning of the working day
  • after something has changed, eg a ladder has been dropped or moved from a dirty area to a clean area (check the state or condition of the feet).

What is a ladder detailed Visual Inspection?

The detailed visual inspection is all about complying with PUWER by monitoring the ongoing condition of the ladder to ensure it is both suitable for the work task and in a safe condition before use. This means that any ladders in the workplace :

  • have no visible defects. They should have a pre-use check each working day
  • have an up-to-date record of the detailed visual inspections carried out regularly by a competent person. These should be done in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
  • are suitable for the intended use, ie are strong and robust enough for the job
  • have been maintained and stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

What’s the difference between the pre-use check and detailed visual inspection?
Pre-use checks make sure that a ladder is safe to use and are for the immediate benefit of the ladder user. A detailed visual inspection is similar to pre-use checks, in that it is used to spot defects and can be done on site by a competent employee. This should be recorded.
