SG World Forges Prestigious Link With Shopping Giant The Arcadia Group

The Group owns many of the UK’s High Street brands such as BHS, Burton, Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge.

When it came to upgrading the visitor ID system, they turned to SG World for help.

Matt McDonnell, Fire, Health and Safety Manager Top Shop/Topman, said: “We are situated on one of the busiest streets in central London. The Topshop/Topman visitor reception area is a constant hive of activity, the gateway for 1000 plus staff and over 50 visitors per week. I wanted a visitor management system that was easy to use for this volume of people, which would contribute to site health and safety and, most importantly, reflect the brand.”

The SG World visitor pass system allows organisations to issue all of their visitors with a branded ID pass featuring health & safety rules that must be followed whilst on-site, a key component of Regulation 3 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

The site has a specific two-stage evacuation process which is printed on the actual pass and can be drawn to the visitor’s attention for reading as they wait to be collected from reception.

This pass is then visibly worn by the visitor throughout their stay in a clear plastic wallet with a branded lanyard, clearly indicating that they are authorised to be on site. Once the visit is complete, the pass can be handed back in to the point of issue and the Emergency Evacuation Register updated indicating that the visitor has now left the site.

The passes are also used to identify visiting contractors and worn in an armband wallet.

He added: “I would describe our previous system as adequate but it didn’t project the professional image we needed for our flagship store. Visitors didn’t always return the old paper passes whereas the SG World design encourages them to hand the badges back and be formally checked out through the visitor book."

Contractors would occasionally remove the neck lanyard passes if they got in the way when working whereas the armbands are completely unobtrusive so the contractor ID is clearly visible for the whole duration on the job, which is a definite improvement.

It was very easy to work with SG World. All of our requirements were handled promptly and efficiently.”
